Gender diversity is an area that has come to be more and more complex over the years\n with the troubling of the binary understanding of gender. Queer \nstudies\/movements effectively question and complicate the concept, \nchallenging the idea of heteronormativity. This project is concerned \nwith the processes of \u2018accommodation\u2019 of gender diversities and \nheterogeneity. Engaging with the queer movement and queer politics of \nKerala, a south-Indian state often praised as one of the most developed \namong the Indian states in many respects, I look at the case of \ntrans-women of Kerala vis-\u00e0-vis the rest of the country, and extend the \nanalysis in the context of the European\/transnational experiences. This \npaper is a small step in this direction. In this paper, I primarily try \nto introduce the project, contextualise the study and engage with the \nquestion of visibility. I engage with the complexity of \u2018visibility\u2018 and\n critiques to the fights for visibility, and suggest that it has more to\n do with achieving \u2018normalcy\u2018 than an imposed visibility or \nhypervisibility. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
