The aim of the text is to investigate ways to provide an answer to \nthe question \u2018what is the disease of ageing\u2019? This question is raised \nbecause of biogerontology\u2019s endeavor of treating ageing. But also raised\n by many social scientific critiques of biogerontology. As will be \ndemonstrated, much of this critique is directed to the ways that the \n\u2018pathologization\u2019 of ageing might affect the status of the elderly. My \nargument, however, is that to better understand what biogerontology\u2019s \n\u2018disease of ageing\u2019 is, one needs to detach ageing from old age.
