Erfurt is the capital of the state of Thuringia in the center of Germany and of Europe. Founded before the eighth century and located at the crossing of two major trading routes, Erfurt was a most important merchant hub in the European Middle Ages. With its 16th century houses and cobble stone alleys, with the famously covered Merchants\u2019 Bridge<\/a> and the oldest standing synagogue<\/a> in Europe, Erfurt is blessed with a unique medieval town center, overlooked by the impressive two cathedrals.
